Do-Si-Do & Feathers
Do-Si-Do
will be a fun way for Baby and you to explore rhythm and movement.
Why is rhythm and movement important to your baby? When Baby
emerges from the womb and the familiar, steady sound of mother’s
heartbeat, his brain begins scanning the disorganized world
for patterns, elements of consistency to help him make order
out of the chaos. Rhythmic activity provides the recognizable,
predictable and patterned information Baby wants to latch
on to. Baby begins to apply his developing sense of timing
in his every coordinated move—from clapping to crawling
to waving bye-bye to cruising to walking. Through the movement
in Do-Si-Do, Baby is gaining an awareness of where his body
begins and ends, what it is capable of doing, and how to negotiate
gravity—no small feats! Baby has much to gain from the
rhythm and dance play in this unit.
Baby’s
Book, entitled This is My Dance is a colorful “move-to-it”
book with rhythmically driven bears who serve as playful models
for us as we explore movement with Baby. You and Baby will
also enjoy dancing the Charleston to “Maple Leaf Rag”
by Scott Joplin, waltzing to Brahms’ “Waltz in
A Flat” and doing the tango and the cha-cha-cha to “Tango,
Cha-Cha!”
Enjoy
exercising Baby to familiar rhymes such as “1-2, Tie
My Shoe”, “This Little Pig Danced a Merry, Merry
Jig”. Enjoy singing the African song, “Abiyoyo”
and the Texas song, “Toodala” and rocking to the
Spanish song, “Rurru”. Baby will explore with
humongous scarves, paper plates, chime balls, drums, egg shakers
and baby bells. Our goodbye song is even a song and dance.

Welcome
to a world full of Feathers! Experience a
wide range of songs, movement activities, object play, and
vocal play relating to our feathered friends. The Australian
Kookaburra, the African Ostrich, and many more birds from
across the world are featured in songs, dances and poems.
Both Jazz and Classical selections, a Yiddish Folk Song, a
Muskogean melody and Mother Goose rhymes set to music are
just a few of the colorful and exciting pieces in this curriculum.
Also included is Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, Woody
Guthrie’s poem, “Grassey Grass Grass”.
See your baby’s
face sparkle as we sing “Hello-Lah” with his name
in the song each week. Baby will then benefit from intentional
touch to “Grassey Grass Grass” and we will exercise
his limbs to “Once I Saw a Little Bird.” Your
baby will learn to socialize while dancing with you to “Gee,
But It’s Great to Meet a Friend” and enjoy rocking
to “In the Shade of the Old Apple Tree” and “Sleep,
My Little Bird.” Babies will explore various child-safe
instruments such as egg shakers while singing “Kookaburra”
and drums will listening to “Duck Dance”. Babies
get a head-start on learning to relax while listening to beautiful
quiet time music. Babies learn language and the art of conversation
from interaction with you. “Who’s Making All That
Noise?” is a fun way of exploring bird sounds with baby.
Babies love dancing to “Duck Dance” and “Alouette”
and love anticipating the movements. Baby will handle humongous
scarves, drums, egg shakers, chime balls, rainsticks, resonator
bars, mirrors and baby bells as he explores his fun world.
Discover
the joy of interacting with your baby and the support and
nurture you will receive from being with other parents and
babies at this unique stage in your lives!
